It was a tale of two nines for many players in the first round of stroke play qualifying at the North Carolina Junior Girls' Championship. The inward nine at Bermuda Run Country Club (West) played over four strokes tougher than the outward nine.

Sophie Holland of Cornelius, N.C. and Madison Isaacson of Greensboro, N.C. each carded one-under-par rounds of 71. Holland was steady on the day, finishing with three birdies against two bogeys on her scorecard. Isaacson turned at two-under-par 33 after birdies at the short Par-4 fifth hole and Par-5 ninth, but she cooled off on the second nine and finished at one-under-par. Isaacson is the 12th-ranked player in North Carolina.

Just behind the stroke play qualifying leaders are Katherine Schuster of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., Kathryn Carson of Mooresville, N.C. and Holly McCann of Raleigh, N.C., who each carded rounds of two-over-par 73. 13-year-old Schuster is coming off a strong T6 finish at the Carolinas Women's Amateur and was a quarterfinalist in last year's championship. Carson is the 6th-ranked player in North Carolina and is looking for a junior win before she heads to East Carolina University in the Fall. McCann is ranked in the Top 20 of the North Carolina Junior Girls' rankings.

Stroke play qualifying continues on Wednesday morning. The low 32 scorers will advance to match play. The Round of 32 will be contested Wednesday afternoon.

Scoring will be provided by the CGA throughout the championship, offering 9 and 18-hole updates. Live updates will also be available on the CGA’s official Twitter accounts, @cgagolf1909 and @CarolinasJunior.
