Grainger & Pearson Win Carolinas Sr Four-Ball
Jim Grainger and Dr. Jim Pearson finish 21-under-par to claim their second straight Carolinas Senior Four-Ball championship
JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (June 9, 2017) -- Final results of the 49th Carolinas Senior Four-Ball Championship at Seabrook Island Club in Johns Island, S.C. on Friday, June 9th (6,291 yards, Par 36-36--72, Course Rating 71.7/137).

In sunny conditions, Jim Grainger and Dr. James Pearson, both of Charlotte, N.C. finished 21-under-par 195 overall, securing their second title together in as many years at the 49th Carolinas Senior Four-Ball. For Grainger, the victory makes his third straight in the event.
"It was kind of an interesting round," said Pearson. "The front nine I had it and on the back nine Mr. Grainger brought it home. He owned it at the end, so that was fun to watch."
The pair found themselves carrying the birdie load individually throughout the first two rounds, but were more consistent in the final round, as each of them carded four birdies. "We went out there and it was just 'go make birdies, go make birdies," said Grainger. "It just progressed and we got putts to the hole and they found the middle of the cup. You cannot go 54-holes and finish on top without getting some really good bounces and we took advantage of it."
Grainger, who was two-shots away of tying the scoring record with Pearson, credits his dominance over the past three years to chemistry with his playing partner. "We just seem to have a knack. We both have our idiosyncrasies and we annoy each other, but it works," Grainger jokingly said. Pearson, with a smile on his face, agreed. "When we have a pause in the middle of a round, we kind of pick each other back up and say 'Alright, now it is time to do something else'. We have played a lot together lately to prepare for this, which was very good."
Robby Kirby and Nolan Mills, III, both of Charlotte, N.C. finished two-shots back of Grainger and Pearson at 19-under 197 overall. The pair were T-1 after making birdie on the par-4 13th, but a bogey on the par-4 14th halted their chances of jumping back out in front. Finishing in third was the pair of Walter Todd, Sr. of Laurens, S.C. and Todd Hendley of Greer, S.C. They carded 17-under-par 199 overall.
Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 55th birthday by June 7, 2017, and is a resident of North Carolina or South Carolina. The championship is conducted at 54 holes of four-ball stroke play. After 36 holes, the field is cut to the low 30 scores and ties for the final round.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
