Amateurs Relinquish Tar Heel Cup to Professionals

WALLCE, NC (April 4, 2017) – Day two singles match results of the 23rd Tar Heel Cup Matches hosted by River Landing in Wallace, NC on Tuesday, April 4, 2017.

Two teams of the best playing amateurs and PGA Professionals from the state of North Carolina met for the 23rd time in a friendly team match play event called the "Tar Heel Cup."  River Landing Country Club located in Wallace, NC is hosting this event for the third time on its River Course.

For the first time since 2009, the PGA Professional team won the cup from the Amateurs with a total score of 9½ to 2½.

Match 1: (Professionals) Scooter Buhrman/Savio Nazareth def. (Amateurs) Josh Nichols/David Sargent, 3 and 2

Match 2: (Professionals) Chris Haarlow/Mike Hutcheon def. (Amateurs) Uly Grisette/Lionel Sutton, 4 and 3

Match 3: (Professionals) Larry George/Cory Schneider def. (Amateurs) David Gies/Dustin Moore, 4 and 2               

Match 4: (Professionals) Nick Jocobi/Matt Vick  def. (Amateurs) Scott Harvey/Paul Tucker, 1 up

Tuesday’s Singles Results

Match 1: (Professional) Cory Schneider of The Pointe Lake & GC won 2 & 1 over Uly Grisette (Amateur) of Forsyth CC
Match 2: (Professional) Savio Nazareth of Starmount Forest CC and Scott Harvey (Amateur) of Sedgefield CC halved their match
Match 3: (Professional) Chris Haarlow of Precision Golf School and David Gies (Amateur) of Quail Hollow Club halved their match
Match 4: (Professional) Larry George of River Landing CC won 2 & 1 over David Sargent (Amateur) of Carolinas eClub Charlotte
Match 5: (Professional) Scooter Buhrman of Gates Four G&CC and Lionell Sutton (Amateur) of Walnut Creek CC halved their match
Match 6: (Amateur) Josh Nichols (a) of High Point CC won 1 Up over Nick Jacobi (Professional) of Monroe CC
Match 7: (Professional) Matt Vick of Pinehurst CC No. 9 won 1 Up over Dustin Moore ((Amateur) of Alamance CC
Match 8: (Professional) Michael Hutcheon, a PGA Life Member, won 1 Up over Paul Tucker (Amateur) of The Club at Longview

The first team with 6½ points wins the Tar Heel Cup.  The PGA Professionals now hold an all-time lead of 14-6-3.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
