Pinehurst CC Captures Sr Interclub

The Pinehurst Country Club Scramblers

PINEHURST, N.C. (October 27, 2016) –  In last year's final match of the Carolinas Interclub, a team from Pinehurst Country Club Courses #1-6 came up short of victory. The club found redemption in the inaugural season of the Carolinas Senior Interclub. Their Pinehurst Scramblers team, also representing Nos. 1-6, defeated Bermuda Run Country Club of Advance, N.C. in Thursday's final on Pinewild Country Club's Magnolia Course (Par 36-36--72, 5889 Yards). The format of the championship is four-ball match play for men ages 55 and older. Eight players from each team compete in four matches with six total points awarded in each match (two for front nine, two for back nine, two for overall match).

Bermuda Run advanced to the final by dispatching Northstone Country Club on Wednesday. In that match, they opened  to a 11-1 lead after the first two groups. The Pinehurst Scramblers turned the tables on Thursday, grabbing the same commanding advantage early and holding on for a 16-8 win and the club's first Interclub title.

During the awards ceremony, Pinehurst Captain Bob Rhodes recognized the level of commitment the team gave to this Senior Interclub season. "All our guys have been great. Some even delayed surgery so that they could compete in matches." Rhodes also acknowledged Pinehurst Country Club's Head Golf Professional Rob Pilewski and Member Relations Manager Nancy Sadler for their contributions to the team. Bermuda Run Captain Dave Rosenblatt was gracious in defeat. "We did really well this year. Today we ran into a buzz saw, Pinehurst played great."

Both teams are already looking forward to the second Senior Interclub season, which begins next spring.
