Cas Father-Son & Parent-Child Previews
SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (July 18, 2016) -- On Friday, July 22nd, 552 golfers (276 sides) will compete in the 50th Carolinas Father-Son and 19th Carolinas Parent-Child Championships conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association at five courses in the Pinehurst, NC area.
The format for both championships is 18 holes of modified alternate shot. Playing in two-person teams, each team member hits from the tee. From there, one ball is selected to be played, then alternate shot until the ball is holed.
As a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Carolinas Father-Son Championship, there will be a dinner/social function at the Fair Barn in Pinehurst, N.C. from 5:30-8:30pm on Thursday, July 21st.

249 teams are competing in 14 divisions based on handicap index and age at five championship sites. The overall champions will be determined from the Amateur Division A which will be playing the Holly Course at Pinewild Country Club in Pinehurst, N.C. Other host clubs include the Country Club of Whispering Pines (River), Pinehurst No. 1, Legacy Golf Links, and Longleaf Golf and Family Club.
Defending Champions Walter Todd Sr. and Walt Todd Jr. from Laurens, S.C. will not be competing together this year but instead Todd Sr. will be playing with another son, Neal. Todd Sr. and Neal finished runner-up in this event in 2011. They will be looking to redeem themselves and bring home another championship to the Todd family.
After a tenth place finish last year, Paul Simson and Phillip Simson of Raleigh, N.C. are looking to capture their third father-son win in four years and record fourth overall title (2002, '13, '14). Paul notched his 30th CGA Champion at the 31st North Carolina Senior Amateur Championship in May. Other notable teams in this year's field include:

Entry is open to any team comprised of a father and son, stepfather and stepson, father-in-law and son-in-law or grandfather and grandson. At least one member of each team must be a legal resident of one of the Carolinas, be a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association, have a current USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club or is a golf professional employed at a CGA member club.

19th Carolinas Parent-Child Championship
27 teams will vie for this year's Parent-Child title at Longleaf Golf and Family Club in Southern Pines, N.C.
Defending Champions Kevin Tindal and Jodee Tindal from Rock Hill, S.C. will not be competing together this year but instead Kevin will be playing with his older daughter, Jaelyn. Jaelyn just finished her sophomore at Mercer University and is a member of the golf team. Kevin and Jaelyn will look to bring home another parent-child championship to the Tindal family. Entry is open to any team comprised of a parent and child, regardless of age, in any gender combination excluding male-male. Step-parents, grandparents and in-laws are eligible. At least one member of each team must: 1) be a legal resident of one of the Carolinas; 2) be a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and have an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club or is a golf professional employed at a CGA member club. A team is eligible if one partner is an amateur member of a CGA member club or if one partner is a golf professional employed by a CGA member club. Pro-Pro teams are NOT eligible.
About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
The CGA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1909 to promote and to protect the game of golf in the Carolinas by providing competitions, education, support and benefits to golf clubs and golfers.
