Carolinas Roster Set for 60th Carolinas-Virginias Team Matches

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (July 8, 2016) -- The 60th Carolinas-Virginias Team Matches will be held at on the River Course at River Landing Golf Club in Wallace, N.C. on July 11-13, 2016. The annual team match is conducted by the Carolinas, Virginia and West Virginia Golf Associations.

The Carolinas-Virginias Team Matches originated in 1957. The matches pit some of the best golfers from North and South Carolina against their Virginia and West Virginia counterparts. The championship consists of four-ball match play, modified alternate shot four-ball match play and singles matches. In the format, a point is scored for winning the outward half, the inward nine and the overall match.

The Carolinas team returns 14 players from the 2015 roster, including team captains Angela Stewart of Greenville, N.C. and Terrie Allemang of Hilton Head, S.C. At last year's championship hosted by Bay Creek Resort and Club in Cape Charles, V.A., the Carolinas team brought home their sixth straight victory over the Virginias team with a score of 78-66. The Carolinas team leads all-time in the series.

The traditions of good golf, respectful sportsmanship and great friendships are reflected in these competitions. Just to be asked if you are available to play is a source of great pride to women golfers throughout the Carolinas.

Eligibility: Invitation only. Team members qualify based on Carolinas Women's and Senior Women's Player Rankings, finish and participation in various CGA championships, and captain's picks.

Format: Day 1: Four-Ball Match Play. Day 2: Modified Alternate Shot Four-Ball Match Play. Day 3: Singles Matches. That matches include 24 players from North Carolina and South Carolina and include three age categories: 14 Regular players, 8 Senior players (ages 50+) and 2 Super Senior players (ages 60+). A point is scored for winning the outward half, the inward nine and the overall match.

Winner: 144 points are available. The Carolinas team needs to secure 72 points to bring home the seventh-straight victory. The Virginias team needs to secure 72 1/2 points to take home the trophy.

Carolinas Team Roster

Terrie Allemang, 56, of Hilton Head, S.C. - Currently ranked the 4th senior women's golfer in South Carolina and the 19th senior women's golfer in the Carolinas. Allemang finished fourth in the South Carolina Senior Women's Championship and will serve her first year as co-captain in 2016.

Susan Beaupied, 57, of Pittsboro, N.C. - Currently ranked 3rd senior women's golfer in the Carolinas. Beaupied finished T4 in the 2016 North Carolina Senior Women's Amateur Championship.

Kim Briele, 55, of New Bern, N.C. - Currently ranked 7th senior women's golf in the Carolinas. Briele was the 2015 North Carolina Senior Women's Champion and a two-time CGA champion.

Pat Brogden, 61, of Garner, N.C. -Currently ranked 1st senior women's golfer in the Carolinas. Brogden was the 2015 Carolinas Senior Women's Player of the Year. She was the 2015 Eastern Senior Champion, finished second at the 2015 North & South Senior Women's Championship and recently finished second at the 2016 North Carolina Senior Women's Amateur.

Lea Anne Brown, 56, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. - Currently ranked 5th senior women's golfer in South Carolina and 6th senior women's golfer in the Carolinas. Brown was the 2015 South Carolina Senior Women's Player of the Year. She finished fifth at the 2016 South Carolina Senior Women's Championship.

Leigh Coulter, 58, of Hopkins, S.C. - Currently ranked 2nd senior women's golfer in South Carolina and 5th senior women's golfer in the Carolinas. Coulter finished second in the 2016 South Carolina Senior Women's Championship.

Carley Cox, 19, of China Grove, N.C. - Cox is a rising sophomore at East Carolina University. Currently ranked 34th women's golfer in the Carolinas. Cox finished in the top 20 at the 2016 Carolinas Women's Amateur and was a quarterfinalist at the recent Carolinas Women's Match Play.

Hannah Craver, 21, of Winston Salem, N.C. - Craver is a rising senior at Appalachian State University.

Mary Katherine Donovan, 21, of Hampstead, N.C. - Donovan is a recent graduate of Gardner Webb University. Currently ranked T49 in the Carolinas Women's Golf rankings.

Karen Ferree, 65, of Hilton Head, S.C. - Currently ranked third senior women's golfer in South Carolina and T15 in the Carolinas Senior Women's rankings. Ferree is a three-time CGA champion.

Cecilia Fournil, 41, of Columbia, S.C. - Fournil qualified and competed in the 2014 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship.

Courtney Gunter, 24, of Matthews, N.C. - Gunter is currently the assistant women's coach at East Carolina University. She is a former member of the University of North Carolina women's golf team where she competed in four NCAA regional championships and two NCAA Championships.

Savannah Hallman, 21, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. - Hallman is a rising junior at Charleston Southern University. Currently ranked 51st in the Carolinas Women's rankings. Finished T7 in the 2015 Carolinas Young Amateur and in the top 25 of the 2016 Carolinas Women's Amateur Championship.

Abbey Hartsell, 19, of  Hickory, N.C. - Hartsell is a rising sophomore at Lenoir-Rhyne University. Currently ranked 20th women's golfer in the Carolinas. Hartsell finished T10 at the 2016 Carolinas Women's Amateur and T3 at the North Carolina Women's Amateur.

Mallory Hetzel, 29, of Waynesville, N.C. - Hetzel is the head women's golf coach at Western Carolina University and a six-time CGA champion. Hetzel is ranked 11th women's golfer in the Carolinas and recently finished as a semifinalist in the Carolinas Women's Match Play.

Mary-Katelyn Holanek, 22, of Cary, N.C. - Holanek plays as a graduate student at Virginia Tech University. Currently ranked 18th women's golfer in the Carolinas. Holanek finished T5 at the 2016 Carolinas Women's Amateur and T6 at the 2016 North Carolina Women's Amateur.

Katie Kirk, Greenville, 23, of N.C. - Kirk is a recent graduate of East Carolina University and a two-time CGA champion. Currently ranked 25th women's golfer in the Carolinas. Kirk finished in the top 15 at the prestigious Harder Hall Women's Invitational in 2016.

Patty Moore, 66, of Charlotte, N.C. - Currently ranked 2nd senior women's golfer in the Carolinas and a 18-time CGA champion, holding the record for most women's CGA championships. Moore recently won the 2016 North Carolina Senior Women's Amateur and is a seven-time CGA senior women's player of the year.

Juliana Sebastian, 20, of Columbia, S.C. - Sebastian is a rising junior at the University of Alabama Birmingham. Currently ranked 26th women's golfer in the Carolinas. She finished in the top 15 at the 2016 Carolinas Women's Amateur and qualified for the Round of 32 at the 2016 Women's Southern Amateur Championship.

Angela Stewart, 62, of Greenville, N.C. - Currently ranked 4th senior women's golfer in the Carolinas. Stewart finished T4 at the 2016 North Carolina Senior Women's Amateur, T2 at the 2015 Carolinas Senior Women's Amateur and qualified for the 2015 U.S. Senior Women's Amateur. Stewart will serve her first year as captain of the Carolinas team in 2016.

Emily Stinson, 21, of - Stinson is a recent graduate of Appalachian State University. Currently ranked 38th women's golfer in the Carolinas. Stinson finished 4th at the 2016 North Carolina Women's Amateur and reached the Round of 16 at the recent Carolinas Women's Match Play.

Lea Venable, 42, of Simpsonville, S.C. - Currently ranked 6th women's golfer in the Carolinas and T8th women's golfer in South Carolina. Venable finished 4th in the 2016 South Carolina Women's Amateur, T12 in the 2016 Carolinas Women's Amateur and was the 2015 South Carolina Women's Match Play Champion.

Anne Washington, 59, of Conway, S.C. - Currently ranked 22nd senior women's golfer in the Carolinas. Washington finished T12 in the 2015 Carolinas Senior Women's Amateur Championship.

Savanna Wood, 20, of Boone, N.C. - Wood is a rising junior at Appalachian State University. Currently ranked 27th women's golfer in the Carolinas. She finished T9 at the 2016 North Carolina Women's Amateur and in the top 20 at the 2016 Carolinas Women's Amateur Championship.
