11th North Carolina Super Senior Championship Preview

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (September 18, 2018) -- The Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) will conduct the 11^th North Carolina Super Senior Championship at Alamance Country Club in Burlington, N.C. from September 25-26.

2017 Champion, Alris Pike

This championship is conducted at 36 holes of stroke play. Entry is open to any male amateur golfer, age 65 and older, who is a legal resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index®. Players may sign up for the Championship Division or 70+ Division.

Alris Pike of Kernersville, N.C. celebrated his 70th birthday last year with a victory at the 10th N.C. Super Senior Championship hosted by Hendersonville Country Club in Hendersonville, N.C. Pike now has the option to move to the 70+ Division but has chosen to continue to compete in the championship division in an effort to defend his title.

Paul Simson of Raleigh, N.C., will look to reclaim the title having lost to Pike by one shot at last year's championship. Simson is the all-time winningest CGA champion and a Carolinas Golf Hall of Fame member. He won the N.C. Super Senior Championship by 10 shots in his first eligible year in 2016.

Our 2014 N.C. Super Senior Champion, Ron Carpenter of Creedmoor, N.C. and our 2015 Champion Bob Desjardins of Mathews, N.C. will both be in this year's field. The two finished third and tied for fifth respectively.

Former CGA President, Lawerence Hicks of Greensboro, N.C., finished in fourth place last year in his first Super Senior event. He'll look to claim his first career CGA title at this year's championship.

Our 2011 Champion, Mike Sprouts of Hickory, N.C., also won the 70+ Division while being the only player in that division to shoot under par over the two rounds.
