11th Carolinas Girls' 15 & Under Set For July 10-11

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (July 6, 2017) -- The Carolinas Golf Association's 11th Carolinas Girls' 15 and Under Championship will take place July 10-11 on the Country Club of Whispering Pines' Pines Course in Whispering Pines, N.C.

The Championship and Junior divisions are contested at 36-holes of individual stroke play. Players will be flighted after the first round. In the Sub-junior division, players compete in 18-holes of individual stroke play (9 holes each day). Entry is open to any female amateur golfer who has not reached her 16th birthday by July 11, 2017, who has not started college, and is a legal resident of North Carolina or South Carolina.

This marks the eighth time in nine years that the championship has been conducted at the Country Club of Whispering Pines. The theme of The Pines course involves using the open, hardpan rough, sparsely covered with the native pine straw and “love grass”, to create the elements that appealed to the late, great Donald Ross. Champion Bermuda greens were renovated in 2016. The legendary Ellis Maples, a Donald Ross prodigy, designed both courses - Pines and River - at the club.

Divisions
CHAMPIONSHIP: Any player (regardless of age) who wants to compete for the overall Championship. This division will play 18 holes each day at approximately 5,700 yards.

JUNIOR DIVISION: Any player (regardless of age) who wants to play 18 holes each day, but who does not want to compete from the Championship tees. This division will play at approximately 5,200 yards.

SUB-JUNIOR DIVISION: Any player who is 12 years of age or younger (as of the last day of the tournament), and who only wants to compete for 9 holes each day. This division will play at approximately 2,400 yards. Players may opt to play in Championship or Junior Division (18 holes).

Eligibility 

Entry is open to any female amateur golfer who has not reached her 16th birthday by July 11, 2017, who has not started college, and is a legal resident of North Carolina or South Carolina.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)

The CGA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1909 to promote and to protect the game of golf in the Carolinas by providing competitions, education, support and benefits to golf clubs and golfers.
