Kinston, NC -- Banks Wood of Charlotte birdied the sixteenth hole and made par on seventeen to win the North Carolina Junior championship at Kinston Country Club in Kinston by a 2 & 1 margin over Robert Long of Greensboro. Earlier in the day, Wood defeated Rodney Thomas of Lexington and Long defeated Chris Jarman of Wilmington to gain the final match. With the semifinal victories, Wood and Long earn spots on the Carolinas Junior team which will take on a team from the Virginias in August.
The girls championship saw two-time champion Adrienne Millican of Fuquay-Varina birdie the final hole to win her third NC Junior Girls crown, besting Eleanor Tucker in the final match.
This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.

Jason Harris of Clemmons, the 1998 runner-up in this championship, advanced with wins in the first and second rounds. Harris, who lost in 1999 to the eventual champion, Dustin Bray of Asheboro will face Banks Wood of Charlotte, a quarterfinalist a year ago, in the third round Thursday morning.
The girls championship saw medalist Eleanor Tucker of Wilson win to advance to Thursday's quarterfinal, while the 13 and under boys division will play semifinal and final matches tomorrow.
