SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Mike Goodes of Reidsville, N.C. fired a final-round 64 to win the 18th Mid-Amateur Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association at The Carolina Country Club.

Goodes' 8-under effort tied the competitive course record enabling him to overcome second-round leader Bob Stanger of Durham, N.C.

A former North Carolina Amateur Champion, Goodes' bogeyless round included 8 birdies, five of which came on the first eight holes.

Stanger finished second at 208 followed by Paul Simson of Raleigh, N.C. and 1998 Carolinas Amateur Champion Terry Ezell of Rock Hill, S.C.
