Whispering Pines, NC – The 6th WCGA Junior Girls’ Golf Championship was played at the Country Club of Whispering
Pines in Whispering Pines, N.C. on July 9 and 10. After finishing in 2nd place in last year’s event, Gina Kim of Chapel
Hill, N.C. shot back to back 74’s to win the overall title. After Monday’s round, Kim had a two stroke lead over Amy
Wooten of Clinton, N.C. On Tuesday, Wooten shot a 79 to finish in 2nd place and give Kim the victory. Last year’s
champion, Sarah Spicer finished in 3rd place.
On Monday afternoon two and a half inches of rain fell at the course in less than an hour. Tournament director Vicki
DiSantis noted that the course played very tough on Tuesday. “Gina had a great round today in the wet conditions.”
The Junior Division was won by Anna McDonald of Hickory, N.C. with rounds of 77-80. Caroline Cahill of Wilmington,
N.C. finished in second place. The Junior Division plays from a shorter set of tees.
The Sub-Junior Division was won by Sophie Holland of Cornelius, N.C. with a two-day total of 96. Carmen Tucker of
Fayetteville, N.C. finished second. The Sub-Junior Division plays nine holes each day.
This Championship is conducted by the Women’s Carolinas Golf Association. Girls who live in North Carolina and South
Carolina, and are rising sophomores in high school and younger, are eligible to play.
