Final Results
MORGANTON, NC – Final results of the 4th Carolinas Super Senior Amateur Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by Mimosa Hills Golf & Country Club in Morganton, NC on Thursday, July 19, 2012 (6039 yards, par 36-36—72, 69.7/128).
John Walters of Charlotte, NC survived charges by Larry Boswell and Mike Sprouts to win the Carolinas Super Senior Championship by one stroke. Walters, Boswell and Sprouts played together in the final round so they knew how they stood throughout the round.
“I started the round with the lead but it was quickly gone”, stated Walters. “Mike (Sprouts) took the lead from me on the front nine then Larry (Boswell) started to make some putts on the back nine to get into contention”.
Despite a poor putting performance, Walters was able to take advantage of the par five’s carding birdies on three of the four opportunities.
“I do not think I have ever shot under par with 35 putts but I will take it”, Walters noted. Walters, the 2009 Carolinas Senior Amateur champion, takes home his second CGA title.
The championship was delayed for 40 minutes due to a pop-up thunderstorm in the Morganton area. Play was suspended at 1:05pm and resumed at 1:45pm.
The top 30 players and ties received merchandise and are exempt into the 5th Carolinas Super Senior Championship that will be played July 16-17, 2013 at Hilton Head National Golf Club in Hilton Head, SC.

This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association which in its 103rd year of serving amateur golf in the Carolinas.
