Stanley, NC -- Final results of the 14th Carolinas Women's Match Play Championship hosted by Cowans Ford Country Club on Thursday, July 14 2011.  Par 36-36-72, 5825 yards.

Dawn Woodward of Greer, SC captured her first CGA championship title by defeating Courtney Taylor of Lincolnton, NC by a 3 & 1 margin.  Woodard, who played for Furman University and is now a mom of four, met fellow Greer resident Vanessa Koechli in the semifinals.  Both players traded birdies for most of the round but then Woodard made a great par save on the par 4-16th and went on to close Koechli out by a 3 & 1 margin.  "The 16th hole was a pivotal point in all of my matches this week," Woodard said.  "All my matches would be close either way coming down the stretch but then I would get to 16 and then I could make something happen."  Woodard also had a "good luck charm" on her bag this week.  Her 13-year-old daughter Ashely.  "She made the week a lot of fun for me and she puts things into perspective.  I'm glad she came along." 

Woodard was in the finals in 2010 but eventually lost to champion, Austin Ernst of Seneca, SC.  "I'm glad I pulled through this year. It feels good to win my first CGA championship."
