Winston-Salem, NC – Defending champion Paul Simson of Raleigh fired a final-round 69 to recapture the North Carolina Senior Amateur Championship at Forsyth Country Club. Simson’s 1-under total of 212 bettered two players by four shots. Spike Smith of Pinehurst and Peter Allen of Southport finished second at 216. Simson was the only golfer to finish the championship under par.

This win is Simson’s 22^nd CGA title and his fourth North Carolina Senior trophy. Cliff Cunningham holds the NC Senior cumulative title record with six wins. Cunningham had wins in 1994-1997, 2001-2002.

The 59 year old Simson will be inducted in the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame tonight.

“This is turning into a really special day with this win,” said Simson, an insurance executive. “I am going to remember this for a very long time.”
