Pinehurst NC: Last year when Don Detweiler asked Paul Simson to be his partner in the Carolinas Senior 4-Ball at Landfall Paul said “Yes, if you will prepare yourself to win.” Don took his words to heart and the Raleigh team has won two of the three Carolinas Golf Association 4-Ball events they have entered. A second place in the Carolinas Senior 4-Ball in Greenville, SC early this year is their only blemish.

After another slow start, the duo caught fire on the back nine again, carding five birdies to easily win by four shots. The outcome was in doubt for a while as they held just a one shot advantage with nine holes to go over the 2004 champions, Don Slater and Lea Couch. Brothers Julian and John Bunn of Raleigh had their best finish in a CGA team event with a tie for second.

John Fritz made the most of his Senior debut with partner Walt Andrews by matching Simson and Detweiler’s low tournament round of 66. John became eligible the day before the event started. The defending champions, Logan Jackson and David Strawn, could not get the putts to drop and finished a disappointing 8^th in their quest for three in a row.
