Girls’ Championship Final Results

Henderson, NC—Jessica Neese of Liberty captured the NC Girls’ Junior Championship defeating Lizzie Bundy of Clayton 3&1. Neese who will be a freshman at High Point University got off to a two up start after two holes and never lost command of the match. Neese won the tenth and eleventh holes to take a four up lead, but Bundy played tough winning the fourteenth and sixteenth. Neese two putted the seventeenth to win the match and her first Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) championship.

Neese will be invited to represent the CGA in the Mid-Atlantic Junior Girls’ Team Matches at Mid Pines Resort in Southern Pines on August 1-2, 2009.

This annual junior championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.

Boys’ Championship Final Results

Henderson, NC—The third time was the charm for Andy Knox of Cary winning the 42^nd NC Junior Championship. Knox, a rising high school senior at Apex High School, defeated Payne McLeod of Reidsville 3&2 in the championship match.

Knox went up quickly winning the first three holes. McLeod, also a rising high school senior, called a penalty on himself when his ball moved after he had addressed the ball on the first hole. Knox then went four up after a par on the fifth hole. McLeod battled back winning the sixth and ninth holes to make the turn two down. Knox birdied twelve and thirteen to take a four up lead. Knox closed out the match with a two putt par on the sixteenth hole to win his second CGA junior championship. Knox won the 2007 NC Boys 13 and Under championship along with being the runner up to 2007 NC Junior champion Robert Hoadley and lost in the quarterfinals of the 2008 NC Junior Championship.

Knox will be invited to represent the CGA in the Carolinas-Virginias Junior Team matches at Boonesboro CC in Lynchburg, VA on August 15-16, 2009. This will Knox’s third time representing the CGA in the junior team matches. He will also receive exemptions into the 2010 NC Amateur and the 2010 Carolinas Amateur.

This annual junior championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
