Gaffney, SC -- Final round results of the 42nd Twin States Girls' Championship hosted by Cherokee National Golf Club in Gaffney, SC on Wednesday, July 30, 2008. Par 36-36--72, 5961 yards.

16-year-old Anne Marie Covar of Edgefield, SC fired an impressive 2-under par round 70 to win her first major championship by three shots over first round leader Jessica Hook of Wilmington, NC.

Covar's only other tournament win was the SCJGA All Star tournament in 2007. When asked what lead to her win she simply said, "my putting. That's what did it for me today. I just got a lesson the other day and now I can see the line much better." Her wedge game may have been her savor too as she chipped in for birdie on #7 and #8. Covar carded six birdies on the day and also was very happy with her brand new irons. She had a one shot lead heading into the final hole and like a true champion made birdie on the final hole while Hook made bogey. In her acceptance speech Covar said, "this win was for my grandma who isn't doing that well right now. This means so much to me, I can't believe I actually won!" Covar will be invited to play on the 2009 Carolinas Junior Girls' Team.

In the sub-junior division 12-year-old Nicole Chin of Irmo, SC fired a 2-under par 34 to take home the trophy and win by four strokes over Kelsey Badmaev of Blythewood, SC. The sub-junior division plays nine holes and a shorter course.

This annual junior girls' championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
