Final Results

Camden, SC: Finally, a little break from the wind and some rain to soften the greens and you would expect the scores to drop. Not the case. Camden CC, at just 6200 yards, may be the most difficult short course in the Carolinas. Every hole has at least one shot, which if not executed to perfection, will lead to a bogey or worse. Every green demands a perfect first putt or the result is the same.

Bob Stringer limped home from behind to capture his first major championship. That's right, limped in from behind. His final round 70 was the only par round of the day and with a birdie on the last hole, gave him a one stroke victory over Brodie Baker of Bermuda Run, NC. Playing in a shoe split open to make room for his swollen, broken foot, Bob fired the only par round of the day to overtake second round leader Bill Palmer. "I never imagined in my wildest dream that I would win this tournament," said Stringer. Defending champion Vic Hannon credited Bob's victory to a swing adjustment needed to accommodate the injury. Hannon, Stringer's long time four-ball partner, noted the change shortened his backswing and lead to more consistent ball striking.

Larry Boswell of Jamestown, NC and former Senior champion finished alone in 7^th by shooting an unusual six straight 37's. Larry has taken boring to a new level.
