Final Results
Salisbury, NC--54 holes was not enough to decide the winner of the 1st Junior Championship of North Carolina. Daniel Meggs of Charlotte and Lee Bedford of Cary finished at 6 under par 207 after 3 rounds at Country Club of Salisbury. On the first hole of the sudden death playoff, Meggs defeated Bedford when Bedford missed a 6 foot par putt. This was Meggs, a 15-year old high school sophmore, first victory in a Carolinas Golf Association championship. It was a back and forth battle all day as Meggs battled back from 2a shot deficit after the first 9-holes of the day. "I hit the ball real good all week, and made a few putts today" said Meggs. Both players competed for the overall championship and the boys 14-15 age division. Finishing in third place in the boys 14-15 division was Micheal McGowan of Southern Pines, the son of Champions tour player Pat McGowan and grandson of golf legend Peggy Kirk Bell.
Current NC Junior Champion, Amber Littman of Stoney Creek captured the girls overall and girls 16-18 division on the 5864 yard par 71 Donald Ross designed golf course. Littman finished one shot better that Jordan Ridge on Pinehurst. Ridge finished second overall and was the winner of the girls 13-15 age division. Sydney Crane of Jamestown defeated Erica Creed of Colfax for second place in the girls 16-18 division. Courtney Taylor of Lincolnton finished in second while Virgina Mayer finished in third place in the girls 13-15 division.
Rob Kirkland of Durham won the boys 16-18 division with a total of 2 under par 211. Second and third place also had to be decided in a playoff. Bradley Martin of Charlotte defeated Mark Garrison of Arden and Garrison defeated Taylor Hernandez of Clayton for third place. All three players were tied at 2 over 215.
James Ellis of Greenville played solid golf all day on his way to capturing the boys 12-13 age division. Ellis, the 2004 NC Middle School Champion, finished with a three day total of 3 under 210. In second place was Logan Harrell of Huntersville.Christian Hawley of Kernersville finished in third place with a total of 220.
