FLORENCE, SC -- Sean Moore of Marshville fired a final round six under par 66 to win the Carolinas Golf Association Junior championship at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, SC. Moore, who also won the 2001 North Carolina Junior, started the day three behind overnight leaders Colin Floyd of Loris, SC and Jerry Richardson of Burlington, NC, but fired a front nine five-under par 31 to grab the lead and eventually win by six over Floyd at seven-under par 209. Taking third was Warren Thomas of Columbia, SC, who ended at even par 216.

In the 12-13 division, Jacob Burger of Orangeburg, SC birdied the first playoff hole to edge Austin Reeves of Greenville, SC after both players finished at seven-over par 223. Rob Kirkland of Durham, NC finished a shot back at 224, firing a final round 75.

The 11 and under division was won by Crawford Reeves of Greenville, SC with a 27-hole total of 114. Matt Love of Charlotte, NC was second at 122, with Rick Rogers of Winston-Salem, NC winning a playoff for third over Caulder Moore of Isle of Palms, SC after both finished at 124.

The top four finishers in the boys 14-17 division qualify for the annual Carolinas-Virginias Junior team matches, to be conducted August 10-11 at Pine Needles/Mid Pines Resort in Southern Pines, NC. Moore, Floyd, Thomas and John Ebert of Charlotte, NC were the qualifiers, with Ebert beating Richardson in a playoff. Already qualified for the eight-player team are Barden Berry of Kinston, NC, Bradley Leeper of Carrboro, NC, Luke Hopkins of Greer, SC and Dane Burkhart of Aiken, SC.

This championship, in its 53^rd year, is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
