BROWNS SUMMITT, NC-- First round leader Patty Moore of Charlotte added a two-over 74 to her first round 75 to win the Carolinas Senior Women's Championship at Bryan Park Golf Club in Browns Summit, North Carolina. Moore also won the North Carolina division.
"It was nice to strike the ball solidly for a change," Moore mused. "It has been a tough spring."
With the win, Moore maintains her hold as the number one ranked senior woman in the Carolinas.
Brenda Frye of Mt. Airy had a two-day total of 159 to finish second overall, while Susan Harden of Myrtle Beach, SC was the low South Carolina player at 164. The Super Seniors Champion, reserved for players 65 and older, was Shelia Hopkins of Lake Wylie, SC at 171.
Moore, who made the semifinals of the 2000 USGA Senior Women's Amateur last fall, carded four birdies versus six bogeys in her final round to win the title in her first year of eligibility. The Carolinas Women's Senior is open to Carolinas' residents ages 50 and older who are members of a Carolinas Golf Association member club.
This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
