BLYTHEWOOD, SC -- First round leaders Bob Stringer of Blythewood, SC and Leroy Rabon of Chapin, SC got off to a birdie-birdie-eagle start, posting a two-day total of 134 to outdistance the field and claim the title in the Carolinas Golf Association Senior Four-Ball Championship at Columbia Country Club in Columbia, SC.
"We teamed up real well," said Stringer, who had an eagle and two birdies to Rabon's six birdies and an eagle, "Our start today was great."
Stringer, the South Carolina Match Play medalist in 1989, teamed with Rabon to lead wire-to-wire after a opening round four-under par 68. Defending champions Charlie Thompson and Marshall Fall of Hendersonville, NC finished at 140.
With the victory, Stringer and Rabon earn positions on the Carolinas team which will take on the Virginias November 3-5 at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, VA.
This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
