Greenville, NC--Ronnie Grove of Raleigh won his first Carolinas Golf Association title Friday in the 14th North Carolina Senior at Greenville Country Club.

Grove, 58, lead wire-to-wire in the 54-hole event. His final round four-over-par 75 edged out local favorite Tom McLean of Greenville by one-stroke. Grove sank a 25 foot birdie-putt on the 18th hole to take the lead. McLean then had a chance to tie, his 22 foot effort came up three feet short giving the championship to Grove.

Grove held a two-stoke lead going into the final round.

"I had no idea where I stood until the 18th hole", says Grove. "I was just trying to make a good par after a poor tee shot." He did better than that by sinking his birdie effort. "The good Lord must have thought it was my time".

Grove dedicated the victory to his good friend Tom Turlington of Clinton whom passed away on Monday. "Whenever I was over a putt, I was very calm because I knew that it really didnt matter," Grove putting golf in perspective with the loss of his friend.

Grove, a vice president for Merrill Lynch, shot 69-71-75--215. McLean, closing with 40 on the back nine, shot 74--216 to finish second.

Defending champion Tom Hadley of Hendersonville had 79--229 and took twenty-fourth place.
