Bob Stanger of Durham won the North Carolina Mid-Amateur

golf championship Sunday at Kannapolis Country Club.

Stanger, 40, held his three-shot second round lead by closing with a

one-under-par 71 and a 208 total.

He finished four shots ahead of Skip Taylor of Asheville and Don White of

Greenville.

No one challenged the IBM software engineer as he birdied two of the first

four holes and finished the front nine at 34 and a six-shot lead.

"I played real well again today." Stanger said. "Not as well as

yesterday's 66, but pretty good."

Both Taylor and White had final round 69s and 212 totals, one ahead of

Chris Logan of Winston-Salem, Steve Wright of Lauringburg.
